this could go on a little ... but here's 1 not in your list :

Journey - Open Arms    Undecided

top man either that or Journey - Faithfully, one band that never really made it in England but were massive in the States, saw them just before they broke up in Boston -- Fantastic

I went with Bryan Ferry, but one of my all-time favourites is also by Ferry ... 'Take A Chance With Me' by Roxy Music  Smiley

i don't get why alot of things did'nt make it in the U.K... YET ! - heaps of classics were overridden by stuff that was only 1/2 as good !

personally, i think it's because in the UK, tastes are more eclectic and less MOR than in the US...hence the success of such diverse acts as say Spice Girls and at the other end of the spectrum, say, Nirvana (obviously just examples)...

also, because the US is so big, the musical tastes vary so wildly from region to region, an example the early punk scene that emerged in NYC area (Ramones, Stooges, Blondie etc) was, although crap compared to UK scene, 10x more likely  to be heard in London than in Nashville...

I can't argue with that analysis.

The list of US acts that were big in the UK before their homreland caught on to them is huge and includes Jimi Hendrix; the Doors; Blondie; Pixies; Nirvana and in recent years the Scissors Sisters.

From the list I'd go for Careless Wisper, (although I'm almost sick of this song having listened to it about a trillion times). . .  But IT IS a classic and a landmark.

My minimum compilation would include:
Careless Wisper - George Michael
Madonna - Live to Tell
Martika - Toy Soldiers
Cindy Lauper - True Colours
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
Power of Love - Laura Branigan
Forever Young - Alphaville
I Want to Know What Love Is - Foreigner
Eternal Flame - The Bangles
A Different Corner - Wham!
I Should Have Known Better - Jim Diamond
It Must Have Been Love - Roxette
Show Me Heaven - Maria McKee

. . . its impossible to stop.  The list of beautiful love songs we had the honour to listen and dance to during the 80's is hudge.
