You'll always find me .... out to lunch

I went to this gig @ the weekend.

Magazine (Frontman Howard Devoto co-founded the Buzzcocks) just about scrape into the 80's

This gig was called the soap gig because they basically played the track list form their 3rd album
"The Correct Use Of Soap"

It was a strange choice of venue and difficult to get an atmosphere going. Additionally Devoto did not make any effort to engage with the audience and carried on in his own little world.

He did a duet version of Sweetheart Contract using the singer from the support band Second Skin - she seemed decidedly uncomfortable  Undecided

The only outstanding tune where people started "dancing" was the final track off the album " A Song From Under the Floorboards" billed as " .. a song for those with no coping mechanism"

They did come on for an encore with a few other vague hits (no Shot By Both Sides)

An interesting night out but really seems that Devoto is a little loose up top and likes to be in control ....  crazy2

The link also shows that the band members were related to Ultravox and later Visage and a few including drummer John Doyle, were involved with Swing Out Sister.

That probably helps to explain how difficult it was to categorise Magazine - post punk / new wave / electro punk ...

Anyway - an experience but not necessarily as good as it could have been   Afro
