A-ha have a new album out!
« on: January 27, 2006, 09:05:24 AM »
It's called Analogue and I've just watched the video for the first the release from it.  The song's OK but the vid's a bit naff.  Morten looks 'older' LOL!  but he'll still do if I get a spare window  >:D  At least he's still got his hair  ;D

EDIT: after several listens without watching the vid it's deffo growing on me  :)

Heard the new song and I'm not keen to be honest.

Interesting piece on A-Ha in the current Q magazine.

I thought they were just pretty boys, but they are all very intelligent, intellectuals even, and very very driven people.

They also clearly can't stand each other.  ::)

What do you mean 'horray' for being too indie. That kind of down beat music is not 80s at all. Shame on you all!  ::)

Indie was invented in the 80s, RB.  (Well, late 70s technically, but it boomed in the 80s)

Not everything that decade was glittery synth-pop.  ;)

Shame  :(  ;D

Speaking of Indie music, although not A-ha related, going back about 14 years ago I remember a conversation between my friend who was an Erasure fan and other friend arguing the toss on whether Erasure were an indie band or not.

I'm no expert but I'd say they wasn't.  What say you, Learned PEC members?

Well, 'Indie' isn't a style of music at all. It's actually short for Independent, referring to the smaller independent record labels rather than the big corporations such as WEA, EMI, Virgin, etc.

During the 80's, Erasure were one of the most popular bands on the Indie Chart, because they sold well, and they were signed to Mute - one of the smaller labels.

Nowadays, most of the smaller 'Indie' labels have been bought out by the larger companies, so there isn't actually much Indie music left.

It always makes me laugh when I see a band who are signed to one of the big labels branded as an 'Indie' band, because they're not.

I accept what you say, but the term is attached to a certain type of guitar rock and that's what RB meant.

So, in that sense, Erasure weren't really an indie band.
