I actually have 2 but I`ll kick off with this one.
It was the 1981 Tottenham Hotspur FA Cup Final Squad singing "Ossie's Dream (Spurs are On Their Way To Wembley)"
It was referring to Ossie Ardiles who was the 1st Argentinian to play in the FA CUP.
The Lyrics went something like " Ossie's going to Wembley his knees have gone all trembly le la la la"(something like that.)
I'm not even a spurs fan so I must have bought the record because I liked it. [smiley=headscratch.gif]
-
I've never bought an 80s record so I'll answer this as 'worst "song" of the 80s':
Joe Dolce Music Theatre - "Shaddap You Face" (1981)
-
I am guilty guilty on two counts of buying a crap novelty record - Firstly, The Firm's Starr Trekkin', which was a truely God-awful song designed purely to annoy. >:(
The other one was Spitting Image's "The Chicken Song" - the only redeeming a feature was the B side "I've never met a Nice South African" which is (or at least 'was') truely hilarious. I've since found this statement not to be true..
Daninho
-
"Star Trekkin'" and "The Chicken Song" are both excellent, IMO. Have you tried listening to "The Birdie Song"?
-
I think I should admit at this point that I also bought the 'Chicken Song' by Spitting Image and 'Hole In My Shoe' by Neil from the Young Ones!
-
The worst single I ever bought definitly is The Chaps - Rawhide. YUK!!!!!!!! I certainly agree with u AndrewR about Joe Dolce. ;)
-
lol i just found my copy of star trekkin, i love it
-
Hurdy Gurdy Mushroom man (flip side of Hole in my shoe) was just a very cool record. My brother and I annoyed my parents for hours on long car journeys with this one!!
-
Vanesa Paradis - Joe le Taxi.
Sad i know.
;D
[/b][/size][/color][/i]
Huh ??? Joe le Taxi was great !!! :-[ :-[
-
The true stars of that video are the Al Jolson synchronised sax players - fantastic!
And brilliant miming and shuffling from Vanessa there, yes indeed, Desmond. Why did I fancy her when I was 14?
You're right though - it's a naff song. Cha-cha-chi??
-
As a sax player, i disagree ::)
Still think the song is great though, ain't got a clue what she's raving on about but !! ;D
-
I think it done so well coz she was a bit of 'Eye Candy'!
My worst song I bought?
Has to be "There's no one quite like Grandma".
Well I didn't buy it as such but had to listen to it over and over again when I visited my grandparents on sundays!
-
I was at the school down the road from St Winnie's when this was released - great ammo! ;D
-
probably paul mccartney and the frog chorus, but its hard to pick one considering the amount of complete stinkers i bought
-
somehow got a copy of Daddy's Home by Cliff Richard when I was 10 - I'm not admitting to buying it, it just somehow appeared in my record collection.
also does anyone remember the song by "jimmy the hoover" - blimey that still haunts me to this day
-
holy crap daddys home beats anything i owned hands down. ;D im not buying the "it just appeared" line though, sorry. ;)
-
Toss up between Music and Lights by Imagination and Going Loco Down in Acapulco by Phil Collins and The Four Tops...what on earth possessed me? :o ::) ;D
-
Imagination? Worst record ever :o I wouldn't consider "Music And Lights" a masterpiece, but still pretty good... I bought the dub remixes just a couple of years ago...
-
I have to agree with Rosecamp with regard Imagination "Music And Lights" not that bad.
I`m sure in my dim and distant past I`ve done a excellent Lee John impression on the Dance floor :-[
-
Oh dear...shall I leave now... :-[
I must have liked it at the time though presumably... :D
-
I love "Music And Lights" by Imagination...currently #14 in my Top 20 list ;D
btw, the singer was Leee John
-
leee john was in reborn in the usa a few months ago on tv you might remember.
my worst record i bought has to be.....
"star trekkin" - the firm ::)
-
Hi all - this is my first post here!
Worst song's I bought....erm....Well, uppermost in the list would have to be Camouflage by Stan Ridgeway closely followed by Clouds Across the Moon by The Rah Band.
'...and I knew there was somethin' weird about him
'cause when I turned 'round he was pulling this big palm tree right up out of the ground
and swattin' those Charlies with it
from here to kingdom come...'
Perhaps worst lyrics ever?
Oh, and another stinker just popped in my mind - Sister Sledge - Frankie!
Why, oh Why, oh why?
-
stan ridgeway is a classic......oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh camouflage.
8)
-
Classic? Well, I class it as one of those summer 'novelty' song's along with Spitting image et al...
Mind you, at the time I thought it was brilliant (the innocence of youth!) and can still recite every single word off-by-heart.
Not a talent I'd put down on my CV though!
-
i must admit i wouldn't have admitted to that andy! ;)
-
What are you talking about? ???
Camouflage is quality!
"Things are never quite the way they seem.......wwooooooowwwwooowwwooww...Camouflage!"
-
definately neil from young ones-album
-
YOUR GONNA KILL ME BUT TWO LITTLE BOYS-ROLF HARRIS
I MUST OF BEEN ON SOMETHING THAT DAY!!!!!
-
jason<--- [smiley=XXbazooka.gif]drill
lol
-
yeah, thats um,- thats pretty bad "drill" [smiley=new_all_coholic.gif] [smiley=icon_puke_r.gif]
-
IN THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME :'(
-
WHAT I MENT TO SAY WAS I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME ;D
-
I must admit, Splodgenessabounds' version of that song was marginally better...
-
Worst records? Hows about Videoteque by dollar or the "B" side "living a life of dreams"?
-
This is something that no-one should admit to but I bought Fiddlers Dream - Daytrip to Bangor ! I know that it was number 1 in December 1979 but it was in the charts for 9 weeks so it just creeps into the 80's. Sad eh
:-[ :-[ :-[ Not even sure if they were called Fiddlers Dream I've tried to erase it from my memory !!!
-
They were Fiddler's Dram ;)
"Day Trop to Bangor..." was their only UK Top 40 hit, peaking @ no.3
-
Has to be 'Save Your Love' by Renee & Renato, although its bad/good in a cheesy kind of way. The video is just hilarious though, especially as 'Renne' is not actually the woman in it. 'Renee' didn't want to be famous so they brought in a model.
-
Angel Face- Shock, starring the now infamous Carole Caplan/Caplin, friend of Cherie........
-
[smiley=eusa_hand.gif] [smiley=eusa_naughty.gif] [smiley=eusa_snooty.gif] @ Cleo

My worst has got to be Muppet Theme Tune, b'w Halfway Up The Stair
(Bought for big bruv for his 16th birfday. For some reason, he wasn't too impressed!)
-
Nothing wrong with the track Halfway up The Stair - which version - the Kermit one or the really sad one by Kermits Nephew, Robin?
-
Now you've got me worried Andy. Robin's version is sad, but Kermit's isn't? You're a fellow Kent lad aren't you? Do you not have standards? Am I really having this conversation?
Kermit, btw
-
;D ;D ;D Where's Romeo Ca Va Ca Va
No idea why I got it
-
LOL @ BBB
I am 'just about' a fellow kent lad. Most of my life has been spent 'oooop north' and I have a northern accent but I do return to Ashford/Folkstone every now and then. I don't like the way folkstone is going though...nowt but lout's and d**kheads in the clubs and whole area (Dover/Folkstone) was full of asylum seekers in the B&B's last time I was down there... >:(
-
Nothing's changed there mate (except how they spell Folkestone!)
-
Sorry 'bout the spelling - for some reason when I was a kid I always spelt it like that even though teachers and my parents told me it was wrong. To this day. if I'm not thinking then I always miss the e out.
Duh!
-
I thought this might be worth looking at again ;D
Some c'mon guys, spill the beans!!!
-
Ok ... I can think of one .. Nellie the Elephant - Toy Dolls.
Alson any football song before World In Motion
-
Although world In Motrion wasn't total crap it was the most overrated footie song of all time.
Virtually tuneless and featuring Barnesy's embarrassing "rap".
It missed by a mile - a bit like Barnesy usually did when he was presented with a gold-plated scoring opportunity for England.
-
Mine has to be Shakin Stevens - Oh Julie
-
Maybe I will retract that last post, I've just had a quick look through my old 45s and found such gems as
Black Lace - Agadoo
Everton FC - 1985 Cup Final Single
St Winifreds School Choir - Grandma we love you (That one belongs to my husband!)
-
Everton FC - 1985 Cup Final Single
"Oh Julie" is definitely preferable to that one.
-
Couldn't agree more Andrew!
Even makes Kids from Fame sound good. LOL
-
well i like some of the tunes here but i won't say which one's in case i get a slating.
the worst song i ever bought was "the birdy song" but in my defence i am a dj
so i had no choice.
and believe it or not people dance.
-
I tried not to buy novelty records - money was too tight to mention - but I did inadvertently get some rubbish when I bought a "lucky bag" of 4 singles. I could see the outside one was "The Monochrome Set" - Wallflower, which was worth the 50p anyway.
The other 3 were :
Steve Winwood - Freedom Overspill (not bad - but not good)
Vicious Rumour Club - Whole Lotta Love (rap version of the Led Zepp classic and TOTP theme for a while) this had DJ Cheif Double D scratching and William B Nice Fuqua ( ;D ) rapping - nice if you like that sort of thing.. Oh and the a side was the "tough edit" and the B side was the "alternative version" !.
The other was Raymond Froggatt - Don't Let Me Cry Again, a typical C & W offering with all the usual ingredients.
Of the 3 this was the worst 80's record that I've bought.
I still have all of them- if anybody wants a copy ? ;D
-
friday night by the kid's from fame, yukk
-
JIMMY THE HOOVER SONG YOU ARE THINKING OF IS .....TANTALISE AND IT IS A CLASSIC .
INFACT MOST OF THE SONGS LISTED HERE ARE CLASSICS .BUT NOT ST WINIFREDS SCHOOL CHOIR OR JOE DOLCI THEY ARE TRULY CRAP .
-
my own personal worst is a toss up between 'is vic there' by Department S and 'Bad Boy' Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine
-
It has to be the f(*&$%^£ Bluebells, without question! Young at hea...
*Sorry, I had to go and vomit then!*
Also, the Alarm, Meatloa... :XXpuke:
-
Is Vic There? is a bona fide classic!
Made funnier for me and my mates by the fact that one of them had a dad called Vic.
-
well i have to say that i loved the jimmy hoover song and it still gets a play now and then, the one i remember buyin and my m8s continuously ripped me to bits about was "nikita" elton john (yuk) wot ever possesed me.
-
I just remembered that I bought I'll Find My Way Home by Jon & Vangelis in a fit of madness in the 80s.
Jon Anderson appears to have a tender part of his anatomy in a vice while he sings over this tinkly dirge. :(
-
I was about to say that I've never bought a bad record, when "Das Beste Sclager-Hits Aus '97" arrived.
40 fat German artists in leather pants, green stockings and meatball moustaches yoddeling... :5opera:
Amazon had delivered the wrong record and they've promised me my money back. So technically speaking I've never bought it. ::)
And since I get a post for writning about it it cannot be that bad, or? ::)
-
I used to take a risk and buy 7'' singles from the bargain bin, songs that I'd never heard before. Sometimes it would pay off, and end up with a gem that I was thrilled to have found.
Other times not so much. There was a girl, I think her name was/is The Real Roxanne. I thought she looked (on the cover) like a girly pop singer, and was hoping for a StockAitkenWaterman type of track. It was a rap song. Not for me at all.

Yes, that is a hideous track - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwDTfsR6Y3w
There were worse rap tracks in the mid 80s though, especially THIS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjoY90SWJzI
-
Tracy Chapman - Fast Car
What was all the fuss about ?
