The closest we will ever get to a TOTP2-style show here in Australia is when they show past episodes of the old music show Countdown. For those of you whose heads this just flew over, let me explain...

Countdown was probably *the* best and most popular Australian music show on TV during the 70s and 80s. It ran during 1974-1987, and was hosted for the entire duration by a bumbling character by the name of Ian "Molly" Meldrum (who is still around and active today, and is still very much a music guru and influential in the industry here). It was largely responsible for launching the careers of many Aussie groups such as INXS and Pseudo Echo.

In January 1993, the all-night music show Rage started showing old episodes of Countdown as a one-off to fill a void during the summer holidays, and every January since then, Saturday nights on Rage have been dedicated to showing old episodes of this legendary music show. I have been taping since 1995, and have now amassed almost 40 tapes worth of episodes. I consider it one of, if not my all-time favourite show.

For those who are interested, there is a Yahoo group dedicated to Countdown at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/countdownabctv. To me, it is truly a phenomenal show, and is the closest Australia will ever get to having a TOTP2-style show (unless the ABC pulls its finger out of its a**).

Gosh, that sounds very sad and boring like hell, I could have a program like that on most German radio stations on a regular evening ;)

OZFROG...

the only good thing about RAGE is the old re runs of countdown
but i've given up with rage trying to see whats on,co's
usually they just play utter sh*t that no-ones ever heard of ( alternative crap )
the producers of that show should be knee capped, slapped
around the head then sacked!
its the only thing we basically have anymore, and they
throw crap on it like that
surely the majority of people think its sh*t the way it is.

have they got countdown on dvd ( being from abc ,ya
would'nt think they'd miss an opportunety )lol.
they do have some good stuff though on dvd.
