That game on the Beeb where you had to run around digging holes for monsters to fall in... I think it was just called Monsters. It's available on MAME, but it's called something else on that. A lot of Beeb games were like that, Donkey Kong was called Killer Gorilla in the Acornsoft version.
Back to that Monsters game, it was great. If you could dig three holes on top of each other and trap all three monsters at once you'd get a mammoth score. If a monster dropped in a hole, but managed to dig itself out before you'd panged it on the head with your shovel, it'd change colour and you'd have to drop it through 2 holes to kill it. It's all flooding back to me now.
I've also fond memories of Elite, though I used to go for the option of smuggling narcotics for a quick profit, and never lasted long once I had fugitive status. I was a dab hand at docking with the letterbox in those twirling hexagons. Another favourite game was Frak, a platform game where a caveman had to eliminate monsters with his YoYo.
I probably spent the most time playing those naff text based adventures.
