Hanimex Picture: http://www.i-m.de/home/compmuseum/detailbilder/hanimex_tvg070c_gr.jpg

It seems to have been popular in germany although it's design is considered to be terrible. It originates around circa 1980 using a General Instruments AY-3-86xx processor. It's only worth about $19 AU (about £8)

Hanimex are very big in Australia and are the main distributors of Fuji products there. They are in fact originally from the UK and were considered the console 'clone' masters back in the 'pong on a chip' days.

I think I'll take my anorak off now!

im trying to get a copy of the commodore 64 theme song from tv in early 80's

( are you keeping up with the commodore,co's the commodore is keeping up with you ) song..
did most country's have the same tune and singers...
p2p seems to be useless under a variety of entries...
surfing seems to run into dead ends all the time, and are mainly talking about tunes
to games themselves....

Get the emulator WinVICE, get some games in .tap format and relive those long load times and crashes again!

Hehe, people moan that it takes 30 seconds for Windows XP to load! Can you imagine how long it would take if we were still using tapes!

BTW, does anyone have a CPC464 they want to sell?

When I was at school my best friend (who is still my best friend BTW) used to have a C64.  We used to play track and field non stop (when we could get it to load, of course).

I can't remember the amount of joysticks we broke trying to run the fastest. LOL

My first computer was a Commodore 64 it was a christmas present around 1992, i still have it today! I can still remember the morning i recieved it now...quickly unwrapping it to find a few free games of which were Outrun, Sly Spy Secret Agent, Shadow Warriors, Midnight Resistance (prob my fav game) Nightbreed, there was also a Mindbenders collection which included Trivial Pursuit (which i remember boring everybody about that christmas lol) Split Personalities, Confuzion.  And not to mention the other free game called Target Renegade which had the best loading screen and music i had ever heard at the time :)

Sorry about going on..never ask a passionate retro gamer to talk about these sort of things unless u have a few hours spare ;)

Mind you, you did choose the inferior machine - the CPC could whoop the C64!!!

Bow to the power and beauty of the CPC!!!

Oooops, sorry. Just went off on a mid-late 80's 8 bit 'wars' mini-rant!

You've never seen a CPC before? Very big in Europe (especially Germany, France and Spain) - I don't think it was actually released in Australia though.

In the UK, the CPC was a relative latecomer to the 8 bit scene which was dominated by the C64 and the Spectrum.

The CPC was based around the Z80 processor and shared a couple of other similarities with the Spectrum so unfortunately ended up with a lot of Spectrum games being ported over. Games specifically programmed for it though really showed what it was capable of and the Yamaha audio chip, in the right hands, was able to blow the C64's SID chip clean out of the water.

Screenmodes were programmable although there were three main ones used
Hi res: 640 x 216 (2 colour) (80x26 text)
Med res: 320 x 216 (4 colour) (40x26 text)
Low res: 110 x 216 (16 colour) (20x26 text)

I have seen 640x432 (16 colour) overscan used in demos.

The three base versions were the
CPC 464 (Pictured) (64k memory and tape drive)
CPC 664 (64k memory and 3" disk drive)
CPC 6128 (128k memory and 3" disk drive)

3 channels of stereo audio + 1 noise channel.

A later version of the CPC was capable of displaying 256 colours from a palette of 4096 in all screen modes. Not bad for an 8 bit machine!

the c64 so much had the edge over the spectrum, due to its superior sound, graphics and yorkie-bar keyboard.

Chuckie Egg was and will always be the classic

Oh Mummy! was the CPCs saving grace....

How dare you pdub!!!  :P ;D

Almost any non-sinclair computer could lay claim to being better than the spectrum though but in it's defence, it's still surprising what the speccy is able to do. Did you know there is a (non completed but playable) version of Doom for it? And some of the scene demo's have to be seen to be believed!

There's no argument from me about the C64 being a great machine but for my money, the CPC could outclass it in every respect when people actually took the time to program specifically for it. Unfortunately, because it used the same processor as the Spectrum it was extremely easy to simply port spectrum games over. In fact, the Oliver twins wrote conversion software that performed almost all the conversion work for them. They'd write the spectrum version, feed it into the convertor and end up with a playable CPC version. All they'd do then is tweak a couple of things, stick a title tune in there and it's ready for release.

Also, the fact the CPC was released quite late into the 8bit era when other platforms were established didn't help it's cause!

As an example of audio though, one of the greatest 8 bit tunes ever is for Thing on spring. Listen to that on a C64 then load up Thing bounces back on the CPC as it uses exactly the same tune. The CPC version is soooooo much better.

Also have a listen to Monty on the Run on both systems. The CPC version really does have the edge.

Finally, have a listen to the ingame audio for Amaurote on the CPC. While the game is crap, it has some of the most haunting 8 bit audio you'll ever hear.
