Prince Goes to the Movies

New album offered to fans who take in tour opener from theaters

Prince fans champing at the bit to hear his new Musicology can receive a copy of the record by dropping in at their local cineplex on March 29th. That's the day the funk/soul legend kicks off his U.S. tour in Los Angeles, a performance that will be beamed via satellite to thirty-two Regal Entertainment, United Artist and Edwards theaters across the country.

Advance tickets for select theaters are available for $15 to members of Prince's NPG Music Club (npgmusicclub.com). Tickets will be made available to the general public, also $15, starting Tuesday at theater box offices or through regalcm.com. The ticket cost includes the copy of the album, which hasn't yet found a distributor and won't be available at that time through traditional retail outlets. Despite rumors that he'd re-signed with Warner Bros., Prince announced last month that he would be asking all of the major labels to release the album at once. "I might be a little crazy," he said, "but the notion is that everyone should get a piece of the pie."

The tour is currently scheduled to run twenty-six dates, but Prince, reunited with New Power Generation for the first time in six years, said, "We're going to go around the world and back."
