NTSC to PAL
« on: January 13, 2009, 11:10:20 AM »
Many moons ago I had a video recorder that could play both the NTSC tapes and our own PAL tapes.  However, when it came to be in my sole possession it "miraculously" was unable to do so anymore!  ::) (I won't go into detail......... :knuppel2:).

Anyhoo, I have since found two old NTSC tapes that I would like to watch again.  I am reluctant to get another video now, and wondered what the best way would be to get these transferred onto disc or the like?

Any helpful suggestions would be muchly appreciated   ;) O0

The easiest way would be to record from VCR to DVD Recorder in NTSC.

However many VCR'a don't playback NTSC tapes as pure NTSC signals. They output as mixture of PAL and NTSC signals known as PAL60.

Most dvd recorders can record pure NTSC but not PAL60.

You have two solutions.

Either get a VCR which will output pure NTSC and any DVD Reccorder which can record NTSC.

Get a DVD Recorder which can accept PAL60.

But my VCR WON'T PLAY them anymore

Then you'll need to invest in one that does...

OR try (no idea what this service is like, but might be worth an email)
This converts to a PAL tape, don't know if the guy would do DVD's or not...  :-\

JON may be able to help (Cheaper than a new video)

You can buy a VHS to DVD recorder quite cheap now...I bought one a while ago for 60 brand new and its fine with PAL or NTSC.
