Mandy? You referring to Bill Wyman's ex-wife?
-
Oh God, the memories are flooding back.... STOP! STOP! It's threads like this that lead to celebrity reality shows.......
-
hi machofairy - yup, it's that mandy bill wyman's wife
bigbaldbloke - i just happen to be a BIG fan of SAW and couldn't outgrow that phase.... pathetic i know.... and i do agree with you, those reality shows are nothing but a pity....
-
BBB is a secret fan really.....................................
Not sure I would say I was a fan of the SAW phenomenon but they did have some alright tunes!!

rick astley's never gonna give up is a classic, as well as bananarama's love in the first degree and hazell dean's who's leaving who.....
-
Good call on the songs Barney ;D
However, I do think that SAW have a lot (of bad things) to answer for too.

My sources tell me there is a whiff of lavender about all of Simon Cowell's high profile "relationships".
Yes, Sinitta may have been "a beard"!!! :o

In years to come, I think people may treat SAW records like they treat Motown records from the 60s - classic timeless pop tunes.
Sure, some of the artistes were naff, but I thought the music and production were the best examples of pure pop and any aspiring songwriter/arranger/studio engineer should learn from them.
The fact that SAW could turn anyone into pop stars showed how good their music was.
Btw, here's a list of some of their records that I have bought:
So Macho
I'd Rather Jack
All of Me - Sabrina
Cant stop this feeling - Big Fun
just dont have the heart - Sir Cliff!
A few sonia ones
A few Steps ones
ALL of Hazell Dean ones
After the love has gone - Princess **amazing bassline!!**
Ferry Cross The Mersey - that charity one!
A record by Michael Grant (Grant Bovey!) - ok, its not by SAW, but it was a darn good ripoff of their style!
-
some good selections there machofairy... yeah, i do agree with you... SAW will be like something of an "era" of it's own like motown.... however thought i must say their best pieces came form the earlier to mid part of their time and all of a sudden just went a bit off towards the end thought.... i would say their best "product" is still Kylie Minogue.. look what she has become!!.... and also Bananarama (though not actually their product)... most of their best tracks were SAW productions....
-
Im a huge saw fan!! they ruled the 80's charts and if you loom at their work and techique they were smart guys!!They turned around the musical fortunes of Donna Summer,Bananarama,Cliff Richard and Sam fox to name a few. during the late 80's they remixed tracks for the likes of the Pet shop Boys,Blondie,Eighth wonder and even Erasure!!Even last few years Pete Waterman did wonders again with pop with Steps, pure genuis

Two of the best tracks s.a.w. ever produced were virtually unknown. 'Shattered Glass' by Laura Brannigan and 'Turn it up',CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE SINGER,HE IS UNKNOWN AND THE TRACK FEATURES ON mADONNA'S 'Who's that girl soundtrack!!
-
Another great SAW tune was THIS TIME I KNOW IT's FOR REAL for Donna Summer
and and AIN'T NO COMPETITION for Brother Beyond
(into the dumper: SUCCESS for SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIK! lol)
bye Giagiax

Yes, SAW owned dance music for a few years in the 80s, loved most of their stuff.
I thought the Sigue Sigue Sputnik was great!
They don't have anything on Motown though. Motown has way more depth to their talent and songs, not to mention a catalog that is 100 times bigger. SAW were milking a trendy dance production formula that was hot for a minute. Theres a reason Motown songs have never gone away and SAW are 99% forgotten.
