Rugby League World Cup
« on: November 10, 2008, 14:57:17 PM »
Been watching some of the games, Australia and New Zealand dominate, it's a joy to watch the Rugby they play, I don't think England have a prayer in reaching the Final.

Young rugby fan asks Martin Johnson how he felt about losing to New Zealand, obviuosly getting his codes mixed up, Johnson just staired at him without saying anything.

It's a bit of a farcical competition though, isn't it?

How can England win one game out of three, finish 3rd in their group and still progress!  ::)

Bang bang, the mighty fall ...

Because all the big boys and PNG are in one group, all the minnows in 2 groups of three, the two winners of the 2 groups of three play-off for a place in the semi-finals against the winners of the tough group of 4. I think it's original, it's the mismatchs in the early stage of the competition.

Doesn't matter how you arrange it - Australia will win and everyone else will be a distant 2nd.

It means that Australia, NZ and England manage to get a few challenging games for the benefit of TV.

But ultimately - yes it is farcical O0

Yes, but the same could be said about any number of sports, Rugby Union, cricket, athletics, etc

It's a bit worse in League though. That's because only 3 places in the world really play it: Oop North; New South Wales and some town in France.  ;D

Didn't we win it in 2000? I remember us playing Russia in one of the group games.
