99 Luftballoons (99 Red Balloons) was originally released in German (1983) and re-released in English (1984). The English version had mixed success on the charts across the world, perhaps due to the poor conversion/translation. Below are both sets of lyrics: note that this is not 1980-89's translation, it is simply the lyrics of how the song was released in both languages by Nena.

The 12" version of 99 Red Balloons has some great editing and stereo mix effects in the middle.

Hi Jason, it's fun to witness your discovering Germany, drinking Holsten Pils and founding the Nena appreciation society ;)
My Nena favourites are "Irgendwie Irgendwo Irgendwann", "?" and "Ich bleib im Bett". I could do without her huge revival over here though...

not only that.....my partner lived in germany for years as her dad was in the army!
i like the new one with kim wilde,we was told about it on here,i went and downloaded,and it now sits proudly on a cd!
who remembers nena's hairy armpits??

Whats the name of that German song released in 1985, that became a minor hit over here? Cant remember the bloody title, but they keep playing it on Lincs FM on sundays in their 80's show?
