Number One Singles On This Day In History [4 June]
« on: June 04, 2011, 22:58:05 PM »
Thought I would run another poll - this one looks at #1 singles on this day during the 1980s.  Please vote for your favourite. :)

If you are unfamiliar with any of the tracks listed, the links below will help:

MASH - "Theme From M*A*S*H" [1980]
Adam & The Ants - "Stand And Deliver" [1981]
Madness - "House Of Fun" [1982]
The Police - "Every Breath You Take" [1983]
Wham! - "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" [1984]
Paul Hardcastle - "19" [1985]
Dr. & The Medics - "Spirit In The Sky" [1986]
Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" [1987]
Wet Wet Wet - "With A Little Help From My Friends" [1988]
Billy Bragg - "She's Leaving Home" [1988]
Jason Donovan - "Sealed With A Kiss" [1989]

In 1988, the number one spot was occupied by a double A-side which (unusually) featured songs by two different artists - in this case Wet Wet Wet's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" and "She's Leaving Home" by Billy Bragg.  Both songs have been included in this poll.

Its got to be Adam and his Ants for me.  On a serious note,  there is a major glitch with PEC.  I thought i saw a Jason Donavan track mentioned.................
Im Stephen King, and i wrote the damn thing!! ( first words spoken on the Shining dvd commentary )

I'm going for Ant (narrowly) over Madness.

I also like the original Spirit In The Sky, but the Dr & the Medics remake was just pointless.
Bang bang, the mighty fall ...

Tough choice between Adam Ant & Madness - but I think Adam just shades it! :)
