We had a spectrum 128k - I wasn;t good at any of the games really - my brother always beat me (not phyiscally!  :uglystupid2:)

I liked Head over Heels and a cheapie called Feud.

Used to think it was the bees knees - rubbish compared to today's standards lol

They didn't exactly splash out on the cover graphics either :)

That game on the Beeb where you had to run around digging holes for monsters to fall in... I think it was just called Monsters.   It's available on MAME, but it's called something else on that.  A lot of Beeb games were like that, Donkey Kong was called Killer Gorilla in the Acornsoft version.

Back to that Monsters game, it was great.  If you could dig three holes on top of each other and trap all three monsters at once you'd get a mammoth score.  If a monster dropped in a hole, but managed to dig itself out before you'd panged it on the head with your shovel, it'd change colour and you'd have to drop it through 2 holes to kill it.  It's all flooding back to me now.  :)

I've also fond memories of Elite, though I used to go for the option of smuggling narcotics for a quick profit, and never lasted long once I had fugitive status.  I was a dab hand at docking with the letterbox in those twirling hexagons.   Another favourite game was Frak, a platform game where a caveman had to eliminate monsters with his YoYo.

I probably spent the most time playing those naff text based adventures.

YOU ARE AT A CROSSROADS THERE IS A RUBY ENCRUSTED AMULET HERE

>> PICK UP AMULET

BAD SYNTAX

>> GET AMULET

BAD SYNTAX

>> PICK UP RUBY ENCRUSTED AMULET

YOU HAVE PICKED UP THE AMULET

>> WALK NORTH

YOU HAVE FALLEN DOWN A RAVINE AND DIED.  PLAY AGAIN ?

Arghhhh - I do with hindsight wish I'd spent that time with girls.  I'll never get it back either.  <big sigh>

I've got 2 BBC model Bs in the attic along with carrier bags full of software.   Having a nostalgia fest with it is something I've had on the back-burner for the last 20 years, but I imagine it's something I'll never get round to doing.

If you look on Youtube, there's a videograb of a version of Frak where some puerile mind has changed all the graphics to ruder versions.  It's more childish than offensive, but you can see it here if you want to.  The music is unchanged.  Close your eyes if you don't want your memories of the caveman sullied.

There's any number of Beeb emulators which can be downloaded at the following link, plus disc images of pretty much all of the classic games.

I might be tempted to devote an hour or two to that myself tomorrow.  :)

that was a real trip down memory lane tho the music wasn't quite as great as i remember it! c wot u mean about the sad graphics but it was still close enough to the original to bring many happy hours in front of the game flooding back! thanx gauntchops O0
