Very Retro - A Must Listen to
« on: September 01, 2005, 11:28:17 AM »
I'm talking about the new Goldfrapp CD - Supernature. O0

Forget about the first and fourth tracks (From an 80's point-of-view only) - Ooh La La - more a throwback to the 70's, "Spirit in the Sky" anyone and "You Never Know" - a "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" sound-a-like. both are excellent tracks though. :)
The rest are mindblowing tracks with a definite 80's influence, "Koko" & "No.1" being the most notable IMO - the latter is oh so early OMD or Ultravox with Foxx.

Goldfrapp's soft, smooth vocals are to the fore yet the synths and electronics are there and in yer face as well.

From my point of view a fantastic, brilliant album which carries on from where "Black Cherry" left off.  8)

they were supposed to be supporting RHCP's in Derby last month but didn't bother showing up - selfish if you ask me!  not that i wanted to see them but there were people that had gone to see Goldfrapp (apparently they are big on the gay disco / pale imitations of Scissor Sisters / wish they had been around in the age of disco scene).

They aren't anything like the Scissors Sisters, Nick. ::) Plus Goldfrapp was formed some time before the 'Sisters.

I'd hardly call their music 'disco' either. Lots of it is quite cinematic and very experimental. Check the Felt Mountain album if you don't believe me.

Mind you I would call their music 'music' as opposed to the RHCP's overlong jam sessions of Flea going 'boing, boing, boinng' on the bass as he always bloody does and Anthony Kiedis yodelling at 180 decibels.  8)
