Anyone notice in the Eighties how all the free software given away in magazines and the games you actually bought, for most of the home computers was done by Ocean.

The geek is here...

Ocean were an extremely prolific computer game company in the 80's publishing around 120 games in total. Most of them were average to say the least and had a reputation for mediocrity but there were a few genuine nuggets among the pieces of pyrite - Head over Heels, Daley Thompsons Decathlon & The Great Escape to name a few.

Ocean bought out Imagine in 1984 and used the Imagine name to publish coin-op conversions and the Ocean name for original titles.

They did a few titles for 16 bit machines but they never gained the recognition they had during the 8 bit era. They were bought by Infrogrames in 1998 (French company!!!) and the name disappeared soon afterwards - all they wanted was the talent and a foothold in UK.
