Arcades
« on: May 18, 2006, 21:16:03 PM »
I spent most of the 80's in amusement arcades in Scarborough, shovelling 10p's into bandits and video games, surely I'm not the only one, my favourite video games were the star wars ones, where you were flying as luke skywalker blasting tie fighters, does anybody know where you can play this online or buy it for a games console?

Also liked playing the football game where you had to roll a ball to move the players.

What are your favourite arcade games?

Despite having lived my life in a seaside town, the Arcades are somewhere I was never allowed to go as a kid.  My mum always said they were full of unsavoury people! (and how would she know?  ??? ;D)

However, I do remember sneaking down there a few times and playing Bubble Bobble, or something.

Astro Wars, now there was a game O0

Also a game called Enigma which was in a local pub on one of those table top jobs, the ones where your beer always spilt when you got too carried away ;D

Was allways Pac-Man. Frogger and Star Wars that I used to play in the arcades, when we used to go on holiday to Kiln Park in South Wales every year.

Does anyone remember a game called "Dragons Lair", which was cartoon like?

All the old arcade games can be played on your PC using an emulator.  Mame is the best emulator.

Someday I still want to build a big arcade cabinet with a PC with mame in it.
Still looking for the time to do it though  :-\

What I really liked (and still 80's; 1989) was Golden Axe:

Great gameplay and definately an advantage to play with 2 players  :)

Yes i do remember Dragons Lair Lord Villa, and i was pretty darn good at it" toots own horn twice" I held the high score for around 6 and a bit weeks at my local arcade in 83. If id held it for 8 weeks id would have won an old electro mechanical pinball machine, but i was beaten and didnt win it. It was won buy a guy named Dirk, and thats a no crap story!!!! But i vividly remember seeing it for the first time and it blew my mind, then i started to blow my pocket money. By the way this is also available to download for your pc, the program is called Daphne Loader.
Im Stephen King, and i wrote the damn thing!! ( first words spoken on the Shining dvd commentary )

Nice one, the trick was to get right through to the dragon level with all your lives, then complete the dragon up untill the last move then kill yourself. then keep doing that until your last life then complete it. Ahh, the good oll days!! Space Ace was ultra cool too! The Giddy Goons
