I never had a Commodore 64, but I did have a Commodore Vic-20.  It was basically just a keyboard that you hooked up to your TV.  If you wanted to play a game, you stuck a cartridge in the back of the keyboard, then you had to type in a command to get the game going.

William Shatner was the spokesman for the Vic 20.  Those were the cheesiest TV commercials of the 80's  ;D

My mate had a C64, and I always wanted one, far superior to the Spectrum.

I used to have one of these and I wish I still had it.  I ran a C-Net BBS starting at 300 baud and then moved up to 1200 baud before meeting a hot girl and entirely losing all interest.  :p However, I learned a lot from this computer over the couple of years that I had it. .  If I still had it, I'd run a BBS again for nostalgic purposes. . .

I loved the game The Sacred Armor of Antiriad on the C64, and played it for hours on end... imagine my frustration when I found footage of this bastard beating it in 8 odd minutes!!

Yep we had a C64  much better than anything else  :P  Our next door neighbours had one so they said don't bother with that plasticy spectrum rubbish get a C64 - we've got lots of games.  And they had!  I loved Frogger and for some strange reason the Harrier Jump Jet game.  My favourite game tho has to be Raid Over Moscow!  Politically incorrect?  You betcha!  And Spellbound was pretty damn good too.  Gave the old dear some terrific hammer with Daley Thompson's Decathlon too!

The Commodore 64 was my baby.  Started with the tape system to save games and stuff, but finally upgraded to the floppies when it came out.  I used to stay up all night inputting code from the back of computer game magazines that would be pages and pages long just to program in a game.  Sad thing was that I had lots of typos and it took just as long getting all the errors fixed as it did to input it all.  But, with all that said, it was THE computer of it's time.  This computer taught me basic programming language and then I graduated to full-on hacking of games (shhhh...).  Those were the days.  I wish I kept mine for the memories.
