Got to say that my favourite is Ice Hockey - the NHL guys are outstanding.

I used to follow it in the UK - Whitley Warriors - but it turned into a bit of a mess when they tried to turn it into a Superleague with not so super players.

Gotta go for WWE. Wrestlemania when the Undertaker came back was pure genius! (I know, I need to get out more lol)
I would go out tonight but I haven't got a stitch to wear ...

I think you're confusing this "Sports" thread with the "entertaining" Wrestling thread in this section  ;D

The best bit about the US sports stuff is that you can get out more to the pub and the game is only starting when you get back in.
Works fine as long as you don't need any sleep  :)

As a teenager, I always watched the American Football which channel4 had kicked off by showing live at the wee hours of the morning. Was a big Washington Redskins fan, who werent that good, so you can imagine, I went mental when they beat Denver 42 - 10 in the 1988 superbowl final. I remember that game as if it was yesterday, it was f***ing magic!!!

This year's superbowl was pretty good - I've always liked the Patriots. They were the also rans in the days of the Channel 4 coverage.
Got to (hate to) admit it but $ky cover the US Football pretty well.

They're having a bad time - never been the same since Joe Montana retired. Plus they have closer competition just over the bridge@ Oakland - I believe that it's a baaaad place.

Just a short mention - while I was in Florida, not 60 miles from Tampa - their Hockey team, the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup (Ice Hockey's FA Cup). This is a little unusual because in the sunshine state, ice normally only appears in drinks  ;D.

The NBA play-offs were also on the TV quite a lot and here the combined efforts of a non superstar team the Detroit Pistons overcame the All Star LA Lakers in 4 games for a 3-1 series victory.

The whole play-off concept ( best of 7 games) is quite good and really builds up the tension (and the viewing figures).

It also makes you wonder - these guys are playing 7 games in 2 weeks (along with an average of 2 or 3 per week during the season) travelling between say Calgary and Tampa and they can still put in top performances on salaries often less than $1m.
Then you look at the Premier football leagues in Europe and see that these guys get very tired very easily - maybe they should leave their wallets in the changing rooms!
